Bulbophyllum antenniferum Lindl. Rchb.f. 1864

02/03/2010

Bulbophyllum antenniferum (Lindl.) Rchb.f. 1864 is an epiphytic growing orchid species, native to South Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines and New Guinea.

Flowers get a length up to about 10 - 12 cm. Flowering period: August. The tropical orchid is called Singto Pak Ped in Thailand. Singto means lion (most Bulbophyllum orchids are called Singto) and Pak Ped means duck’s bill. Bulbophyllum antenniferum orchids are protected by CITES Appendix II (trade controlled to avoid use incompatible with species survival). Plants require a hot and humid climate and a shady location. The orchid should be kept humid, but not wet and needs a good air movement to avoid fungal infections. Waterings should be restricted during the winter rest, but the potting medium shouldn`t dry out completely.
