Phalaenopsis Orchids

The Phalaenopsis Orchid (Phal), first described by the German-Dutch botanist Karl Ludwig Blume in 1825, is according to other genera a small genus of the Orchidaceae family, with just 60 species. Because of its shade the Name “Moth Orchid” has been given, Palaena is also the name for a genus of big moth. The Phalaenopsis is one of the most popular orchids for trade and there are a vast number of hybrids. The abbreviation in horticultural trade is: P.
