Dendrobium signatum Rchb. f. 1884

07/12/2012

Dendrobium signatum Rchb. f. 1884 is an epiphytic growing orchid species, native to Myanmar (formerly Burma), Thailand, Laos and Vietnam.

Dendrobium signatum orchids are found in 2 color forms (see pictures), with and without magenta-red blotches. The fragrant and long-living flowers get a size of about 5-7 cm. Flowering period: February - April. The tropical orchid requires a warm to hot, humid climate and is best cultivated in partial shade to full sun. Like most tropical orchids Dendrobium signatum needs cooler temperatures during the winter rest, water and fertilizer should be strongly restricted until new growth appears. Dendrobium signatum orchids are protected by CITES Appendix II (trade controlled to avoid use incompatible with species survival).
