Flowers reach a size of about 3-4 cm. Flowering period: November - Dezember. The Bulbophyllum patens orchid species has been described and named by the British botanist Sir George King (1840 - 1909), who was appointed superintendent of the Royal Botanic Garden, Calcutta and became the first Director of the Botanical Survey of India in 1890. The Botanical Survey of India (BSI) is an institution, established in 1887 and formally instituted in 1890 by the Government of India to survey the botanical diversity of the Indian Empire (British Raj). Bulbophyllum patens orchids require a hot and humid climate, regulary watering and fertilizing and a shady habitat. The Bulbophyllum patens orchids species is protected by CITES Appendix II (trade controlled to avoid use incompatible with species survival).
