Dendrobium amabile (Lour.) O’Brien 1909 is an epiphytic growing orchid species native to South China (Hainan) and Vietnam.

The hanging inflorescences reach lengths of about 30 cm and are packed with multiple flowers. Flowers of the lovely Dendrobium (the Latin word amabile, means lovely or charming) get a size of about 5-6 cm in diameter and are not fragrant.
Flowering period: Spring - Summer. Dendrobium amabile orchids are protected by CITES Appendix II (trade controlled to avoid use incompatible with species survival). The tropical orchid requires intermediate - warm temperatures and is best cultivated in partial shade to full sun, whilst midday sun should be avoided.

Plants should be kept slightly moist. Waterings should be restricted during the winter rest, until new growth appears in spring. Dendrobium amabile belongs to the Dendrobium Section Densiflora Finet 1903, characterized by yellow or white with yellow colored flowers, born on mostly hanging inflorescences with up to 60 single flowers. Prominent members of the Densiflora section are Dendrobium palpebrae, Dendrobium brymerianum, Dendrobium chrysotoxum, Dendrobium densiflorum, Dendrobium jenkinsii and Dendrobium sulcatum.
