Lady Slipper Orchid Paphiopedilum spicerianum
Paphiopedilum spicerianum (Rchb.f) Pfitzer 1888 is a terrrestrial, sometimes lithophytic growing lady slipper orchid species, native to the Himalayas, India (Assam), Bhutan, Myanmar (formerly Burma) and China (Yunnan).
Paphiopedilum spicerianum orchids grow preferably on limestone cliffs at elevations of 300 – 2000 meters. The multiflowered inflorescences reach a length up to about 40 cm. Flowers last about 2-3 month and get a size of about 8 cm. Flowering period: Autumn – Winter. Paphiopedilum spicerianum lady slipper orchids are protected by CITES Appendix I (threatened with extinction, trade only in exceptional circumstances). Paphiopedilum spicerianum is considered as an easy to care orchid and requires a cool to intermediate cool climate and low to medium light.
