Rhyncholaeliocattleya King of Taiwan

Rhyncholaeliocattleya King of Taiwan is an intergeneric, epiphytic growing orchid hybrid, a crossing between the hybrids Rhyncholaeliocattleya Bryce Canyon and Rhyncholaeliocattleya Purple Ruby.


The showy orchid with its bright purple, sweetish scented flowers has been registered with the Royal Horticultural Society by Chaung-Tien Chiou, an orchid breeder from Taiwan, in the year 1989. Rhyncholaeliocattleya, abbreviated Rlc. in horticultural trade is the nothogenus for orchid hybrids cultured from the species orchids Rhyncholaelia and Cattleya. This intergeneric orchid hybrids are often labeled as Brassolaeliocattleya, abbreviated Blc. in horticultural trade, as many Rhyncholaelia orchids has been moved to the Brassia genus. The fragrant flowers of Rlc. King of Taiwan get a size of about 18 - 20 cm across. The orchid hybrid is considered as an easy to care plant and requires intermediate temperatures, in summer a bright, but shady, in winter a sunny and bright location. Rlc. King of Taiwan doesn`t have a specific flowering period.
