Rhynchostylis retusa Blume 1825

Rhynchostylis retusa (L.) Blume 1825, beacuase of its spectacular inflorescences commonly called Foxtail Orchid, is an epiphytic growing orchid species, endemic to the Himalayas, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Myanmar (formerly Burma), Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia, and the Philippines.


In Thailand this Rhychostylis beauty is called Aiyaret or Hang Krarok. The inflorescences reach lengths up to 60 cm and are densely packed with beautiful flowers. The highly fragrant flowers get a size of about 2 cm in diameter. Flowering period: May - June. Rhynchostylis retusa foxtail orchids are protected by CITES Appendix II (trade controlled to avoid use incompatible with species survival). The tropical orchid requires warm temperatures and moderate sunlight.
