Trias oblonga Lindl 1830

29/01/2010

The miniature sized Trias oblonga Lindl. 1830 is an epiphytic growing orchid species, endemic to Thailand, Myanmar (formerly Burma), Bangladesh and India (Assam).

The small, about 1.5 cm sized, flowers are short-living (just about 1 day). Flowering period: February - April. Trias oblonga orchids are protected by CITES Appendix II (trade controlled to avoid use incompatible with species survival). The tropical orchid requires an intermediate to warm, humid climate and a good air movement to avoid fungal infections. The miniature orchid should be kept moist during the growth season, but watering should be restricted during the winter rest.
