Bulbophyllum macranthum Lindl. 1844 is an epiphytic growing orchid species native to India (Assam), Myanmar (formerly Burma), Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines, Papua New Guinea and Solomon Islands.
Flowers of Bulbophyllum macranthum grow upside down on single-flowered, about 5 cm long inflorescences. The fragrant flowers, with a scent reminescent of cloves or camphor, reach a size up to about 5 cm. Flowering season: April. Bulbophyllum macranthum orchids are protected by CITES Appendix II (trade controlled to avoid use incompatible with species survival). The tropical orchid species requires a warm to hot, humid climate and a shady habitat with good air movement. Bulbophyllum macranthum is easily confused with Bulbophyllum praetervisum J.J. Verm. 2002, which have a pair of teeth on the column.
