Bulbophyllum putidum

17/04/2012

Bulbophyllum putidum (Teijsm. & Binn.) J.J.Sm. 1912, often called Mastigion fascinator or Bulbophyllum fascinator, which are synonyms, is for sure one of the most fascinating orchid species. As I primarily saw the Bulbophyllum putidum at an orchid show my interest in Orchidaceae has been awaked. A few years later I discovered an even more fascinating orchid, a colorful hybrid from Bulbophyllum putidum x Sunipia bicolor. The epiphytic growing Bulbophyllum putidum orchid species is native to Myanmar (formerly Burma), Thailand, Laos and Vietnam. The stunning flowers reach a length up to about 20 cm. Flowering period: August - October.
