The leafless miniature orchid Chiloschista lunifera (Rchb.f) J.J. Sm. 1905 is native to the Himalayas, India (Assam), Myanmar (formerly Burma), Thailand (Phaya Rai Bai)
and Laos.

Primarily described by Heinrich Gustav Reichenbach in the year 1868 as Thrixspermum luniferum Rchb. f. 1868, the beautiful orchid with its small fragrant flowers has been changed to Chiloschista lunifera (Rchb.f) J.J. Sm. 1905 by the Dutch botanist Johannes Jacobus Smith (J.J. Sm.). Chiloschista lunifera flowers reach a size of about 0,8 - 1,2 cm. Inflorescences reach a length up to 30 cm and carry up to 20 fragrant blooms. Flowering period: March - April. Chiloschista lunifera orchids are protected by CITES Appendix II (trade controlled to avoid use incompatible with species survival). The epiphytic growing, tropical miniature orchid requires cool to warm temperatures and a moderate shady location.
