19/04/2010
Chiloschista viridiflava Seidenf. 1988 is an epiphytic growing, leafless miniature orchid, native to North Thailand.
The Chiloschista viridiflava orchid species (sometimes misspelled as Chilochista viridiflora) was primarily described by the danish botanist and diplomat Dr. Gunnar Seidenfaden in the year 1988. In Thailand this orchid beauty is called Phaya rai bai, which means without leaves. The small flowers reach a size of just about 1,2 cm. Flowering period: April - June. Chiloschista viridiflava orchids are protected by CITES Appendix II (trade controlled to avoid use incompatible with species survival). The tropical miniature orchid requires a warm and humid climate and should be cultivated in moderate shade.
