Calanthe triplicata (Willemet) Ames 1907, in Australia commonly called Christmas Orchid,
is a large-seized, terrestrially growing orchid species native to Africa (Mauritius, Madagascar), Asia, Australia and the Pacific Islands.
The Calanthe triplicata inflorescence can reach a length up to about 2 meters and carry about 50 successively opening flowers. Single flowers get a size of about 2 - 2,5 cm. Flowering period: Summer - Autumn. The tropical orchid species requires cool to warm temperatures and a shady location. Calanthe triplicata orchids are protected by CITES Appendix II (trade controlled to avoid use incompatible with species survival).
