Antigonon leptopus Hook. & Arn. 1841, commonly called Coral Vine, Mexican Creeper, Honolulu Creeper, Corallita, Chinese Love Vine, Chain of Love, Hearts on a Chain or San Miguelito Vine, is a fast growing tropical vine, native to Mexico.
Nowadays the evergreen Coral Vine, which is available with pink or white flowers, is widely distributed in tropical and subtropical countries around the world and in some areas listed as an invasive species. The vigorous tropical vine, which can reach lengths up to about 14 meters is ideally suited to plant greenery on garden fences and walls or on a trellis. The Coral Vine is in full bloom from spring to autumn, in tropical environments nearly all around the year. The perennial climber is drought tolerant and is best cultivated in full sun, but should be regularly pruned to keep the plant in shape. The lantern or heart shaped (when not fully opened), pinkish red or white flowers of the Coral Vine are arranged in long trailing sprays. Single flowers get a size of about 1 cm and are attractive to bees, butterflies and birds. The tuberous roots are edible.
