Dendrobium lituiflorum Lindl. 1856

The highly fragrant Dendrobium lituiflorum Lindl. 1856 is an epiphytic growing orchid species, native to Thailand, Laos, Myanmar (formerly Burma), Vietnam, India (Assam), Bangladesh and the Himalayas.


The beautiful purple flowers last up to about 2 weeks and get a size of about 5 cm in diameter. Flowering period: February - March. In Thailand the orchid is called, Ueang Khrang Sai Yao or Ueang sai muang. Dendrobium lituiflorum orchids are protected by CITES Appendix II (trade controlled to avoid use incompatible with species survival). The tropical orchid requires warm - hot temperatures and medium light. Plants should be kept humid, but not wet, during the growth season from spring - autumn and need a dry period during the winter rest.
