Dendrobium miyakei Schlechter 1919 (Dendrobium goldschmidtianum) is an epiphytic growing Dendrobium orchid species, native to Taiwan and the Philippines.
The orchid beauty has been named by the German botanist Rudolf Schlechter in honour of the Philippine orchid enthusiast Miyasaki. The beautiful flowers gets a size of about 1,25 cm and the large sized orchid is blooming several times a year (late winter - early spring, summer). As we recently found out the name Dendrobium miyakei is just accepted as a synonym, the correct name is Dendrobium goldschmidtianum Kraenzl. 1909, but as Dendrobium miyakei flowers are scentless, the similar looking Dendrobium goldschmidtianum flowers are fragrant. Dendrobium miyakei (Dendrobium goldschmidtianum) orchids are protected by CITES Appendix II (trade controlled to avoid use incompatible with species survival).
