Hoya praetorii is often confused with another very beautiful Hoya species, Hoya lasiantha Korthals ex Blume 1848, which looks quite similar, but has bigger flowers and the corona is colored in a creamy yellowish white, whilst the corona of Hoya praetorii is red. Hoya lasiantha has been primarily described by the German-Dutch botanist Karl Ludwig Blume (1796-1862) in 1848 as Plocostemma lasianthum (Plocostemma lasiantha). The slightly fragrant Hoya lasiantha flowers sprout in umbels of up to about 15 flowers. Single flowers, which are partly covered with white hairs, get a length of about 2,5 cm and a width of about 1 cm. Hoya lasiantha is considered as a difficult to care plant and can`t be recommended for Hoya beginners. Hoya lasiantha is native to Indonesia (Sumatra and Borneo (Kalimantan)).
