Lady Slipper Orchid Paphiopedilum coccineum

Paphiopedilum coccineum Perner & R.Herrm. 2000 is a terrestrial growing lady slipper orchid species native to Vietnam and grows at elevations from 600-1000 meters.


The single flowered inflorescence of Paphiopedilum coccineum reach a length of about 18 cm. Flowers get a width up to about 10 cm. Flowering period: September - October. The lady slipper orchid Paphiopedilum coccineum requires a calcareous soil, cool to warm temparaures and moderate light. In the wild the orchid grows in cracks with leaf litter of limestone mountains. In cultivation the potting medium of the lady slipper orchid should always be humid, but not soggy and a bit drier during the winter rest.
