08/06/2010

Porpax ustulata (Par. & Rchb.f.) Rolfe 1908 is an epiphytic or lithophytic on limestones growing miniature orchid species native to China (Yunnan), Myanmar (formerly Burma) and Thailand.

The spectacular flowers reach a size of just about 0,8 cm. To see the beauty of this very small and hairy orchid flower You will need a magnifying glass or a macro lens. Flowering period: May - June. Porpax ustulata orchids are protected by CITES Appendix II (trade controlled to avoid use incompatible with species survival). The tropical miniature orchid species requires warm - hot temperatures and a shady location. The potting medium should dry out between waterings and the plant should be kept even drier during the winter rest, it will need just enough water to keep pseudobulbs from shriveling.
