Coelogyne Bird in Flight is an epiphytic growing, primary orchid hybrid, a crossing between the species orchids Coelogyne usitana (seed parent) and Coelogyne lawrenceana (pollen parent).
The beautiful orchid hybrid has been registered with the Royal Horticultural Society in the year 2011 by D.W.Bird. On the first sight Coelogyne Bird in Flight looks like Coelogyne usitana, but with a significant difference, whilst inflorescences of Coelogyne usitana are zig-zag shaped, inflorescences of Coelogyne Bird in Flight are straight. Flowers get a size of up to about 8 cm. The tropical orchid hybrid requires warm - hot temperatures and a partial shady location.
