Rhynchostylis gigantea var. rubrum Sagarik

Rhynchostylis gigantea var. rubrum Sagarik is a dark amethyst purple colored variation of the beautiful Rhynchostylis gigantea, found in West Thailand and has been described by the Thai botanist and orchid researcher Prof. Rapee Sakarik (born 1922). Inflorescences of this epiphytic growing orchid species can reach a length up to about 40 cm and carry up to 50 highly fragrant flowers. The scent is a bit reminiscent of jasmine and very strong. Rhynchostylis gigantea var. rubrum flowers get a size of about 2,5 cm. Flowering period: December - February.
