The scorpion orchid Arachnis Maggie Oei “Yellow Ribbon” is an epiphytic growing, primary orchid hybrid, a crossing between the species orchids Arachnis hookeriana (seed parent) and Arachnis flos-aeris (pollen parent).

Arachnis Maggie Oei has been registered with the Royal Horticultural Society in the year 1950 by J.Laycock. The Arachnis genus has been established by the German-Dutch Botanist Karl Ludwig Blume in 1825 and contains about 12 species, commonly called Scorpion orchids, native to South East Asia. The Scorpion Orchid Hybrid Arachnis Maggie Oei is a very large orchid plant, which prefers to climb on trees. Inflorescences reach lengths up to about 1,50 meters and are packed with multiple fragrant flowers. Flowers get a size of about 8 - 10 cm and open successively. Flowering period: free flowering.

The scorpion orchid hybrid requires a warm - hot, humid climate and is best cultivated in full sun, with a protection from hot midday sun, which may burn the leaves.
As Arachnis Maggie Oei “Yellow Ribbon” has orange-brown stripes and a white lip, there is another cultivar, Arachnis Maggie Oei “Red Ribbon”, with red stripes and a purple lip.
