Bulbophyllum cootesii Ma. A. Clements 1999 is an epiphytic growing orchid species, named in honour to the Australian orchid enthusiast Jim Cootes. Bulbophyllum cootesii is native to the island of Mindanao, Philippines. The beautiful, bright yellow, simultaneously opening flowers reach a size of about 5 cm in diameter. Flowering period: Summer to Autumn. Bulbophyllum cootesii orchids are protected by CITES Appendix II (trade controlled to avoid use incompatible with species survival). The tropical orchid requires warm temperatures, a location in shade, a well drained potting medium and a good air movement to avoid fungal infections . Plants should be kept moist, but not sogging wet, during growth season, whilst during the winter rest waterings should be restricted.
