Dendrobium christyanum Rchb. f. 1882

03/08/2010

Dendrobium christyanum Rchb. f. 1882 is an epiphytic growing miniature orchid species, found in North and Northeast Thailand, North Vietnam and South China.
The fragrant flowers get a size of about 5 cm. Flowering period: May - August. Dendrobium christyanum orchids are protected by CITES Appendix II (trade controlled to avoid use incompatible with species survival). The tropical miniature orchid requires intermediate to warm temperatures, a location in partial shade with medium light. During the growth season from spring to autumn plants should be kept humid, but not wet, whilst during the dormancy period in winter Dendrobium christyanum plants should be kept dry, until new growth appears. To avoid shrinking of the pseudobulbs plants and the surface of the potting medium should be misted occasionally.
