The Huernia zebrina flower is a real eye catcher and
while we discovered the Huernia zebrina var. magniflora,
we´ve been told that there is a smaller variety, the Huernia zebrina, around.
As the Huernia zebrina var. magniflora is called Donut yai (big donut) in Thailand,
the smaller Huernia zebrina is called Donat lek (small donut).
The genus Huernia contains about 60 succulent species,
native to East and South Africa.
The Huernia genus has been named in honour to Justin Heurnius (1587–1652)
a Dutch missionary, his name was misspelled.
The Huernia zebrina flower reach a size of about 6 cm in diameter.
