Renanstylis Bangkok Beauty
09/12/2010
Renanstylis Bangkok Beauty is an epiphytic growing orchid hybrid, a crossing between Renanstylis (Rnst.) Azimah (seed parent) and Renanthera (Ren.) Bangkok Flame (pollen parent).
The beautiful hybrid with its bright red flowers, has been developed by the Thai orchid breeder V.Jiravongkhajorn and has been registered with the Royal Horticultural Society by Kirk Hoo, a judge from the American Orchid Society in the year 2010. The branched inflorescences get lengths of about 50 cm and are densely packed with multiple flowers. Single flowers get a size of about 4-5 cm in diameter and are long-lasting. As many Renanthera orchids are real giants, Renanstylis Bangkok Beauty has a much compacter size and an attractive relation between plant size and flowers.Renanstylis, abbreviated Rnst. in horticultural trade, is the nothogenus (hybridgenus) for intergeneric crossings from Renanthera and Rhynchostylis orchids.
Renanthera orchids and their relatives and hybrids as Renanstylis are not just cultivated as potted plants, but also for the production of cut-flowers. With good care flower sprigs of this orchids may last for 4-6 weeks and are well-liked for exotic flower arrangements and flower bouquets. We found the Renanstylis Bangkok Beauty at the Royal Flora Ratchaphruek 2010 orchid show in Chiang Mai, North Thailand.
