Bulbophyllum thiurum

22/11/2012

Bulbophyllum thiurum J.J. Verm. & P.O’Byrne 2005 is a rare in the wild, epiphytic growing orchid species, native to the Malay Peninsula.

The tropical orchid species belongs to the Bulbophyllum Section Cirrhopetalum and blooms from winter until spring. Flowers get a length of about 10 to 20 cm. Bulbophyllum thiurum is certainly not an easy to care orchid, as the plant requires an equatorial climate with warm to hot temperatures, high humidity, a shady location or low light and a good air movement to avoid fungal infection.
