At the Ratchaphruek 2009 Orchid Exhibition - Chiang Mai - Thailand, we´ve been captured by the beauty of the rare Pleione maculata Lindl. orchid.

The Pleione maculata (Lindl.) Lindl.& Paxton 1851, also called “The spotted Pleione” is found in Thailand (North and upper North East) and Vietnam and grows terrestrial at elevations above 2000 meters. Flowers get a size of about 4,5 cm. Flowering period of this beautiful orchid is fall (September - October). Pleione maculata orchids are protected by CITES Appendix II (trade controlled to avoid use incompatible with species survival).
