Cattleya Orchids

The orchid genus Cattleya has been established by the great orchidologist Sir John Lindley in the year 1824. Nowadays Cattleya orchids are mostly known for their colourful big flowerd hybrids, but there are also about 50 Cattleya species orchids living in the wild. The epiphytic or lithophytic growing Cattleya orchids are native to tropical South America. The Orchidaceae genus Cattleya has been named in honour to the british orchid gardener William Cattley.
