Renanthera Kalsom Red Dragon

Renanthera Kalsom Red Dragon is an epiphytic growing, primary orchid hybrid, a crossing between Renanthera philippinensis (seed parent) and Renanthera storiei (pollen parent).


The large-sized, tropical orchid hybrid, reaching highs up to 1,50 - 2 meters, has been registered with the Royal Horticultural Society under the name Renanthera Kalsom by S.Y.Alsagoff in 1977. The long-lasting flowers get a size of about 3 cm in diameter and are grouped on branched inflorescences, packed with up to about 50 single flowers. Flowering period: free flowering. Whilst flowering, Renanthera Kalsom Red Dragon will stay in bloom for about 5-6 month. The tropical orchid hybrid requires a warm - hot, humid climate and bright light or full sunlight.


Plants are best cultivated mounted on wood or in pots, using a very well-drained potting medium, which should slightly dry out during waterings. Renanthera orchids and their hybrids are also cultivated for the production of cut-flowers. With good care the impressive and colorful flower sprigs of this stunning, tropical orchids may last for 4-6 weeks and are well-liked for exotic flower arrangements and flower bouquets.
