Bulbophyllum elassonotum

24/12/2013

Bulbophyllum elassonotum Summerh.1935 is an epiphytic growing orchid species, native to Cambodia and Vietnam. Inflorescences get lengths of about 15-20 cm and are densely packed with tiny, little flowers. Single flowers get a length of just about 1 cm, a width of 0,5 cm and are slightly fragrant, with an unpleasant, but barely noticeable smell like fish. Flowering period: November - January. Bulbophyllum elassonotum orchids are protected by CITES Appendix II
(trade controlled to avoid use incompatible with species survival).

The tropical orchid requires cool to warm temperatures, a shady location and a good air circulation to avoid fungal infections. During the growth season plants should be kept moist, but not wet, whilst during dormancy in winter, waterings should be restricted, the porring medium should dry out between waterings.
