Luisia Orchids

Luisia Gaudich. 1829 is an epiphytic growing orchid genus, native to tropical Asia. The French botanist Charles Gaudichaud-Beaupré (1789 – 1854) named the Luisia orchid genus in honour to the Portuguese or Galician sailor Luís Vaz de Torres, who discovered the Torres Strait between Australia and New Guinea in the year 1606. The Luisia Orchidaceae genus contains abot 40 orchid species.
The abbreviation in horticultural trade is: Lsa.
