Hoya blashernaezii

27/11/2013

Hoya blashernaezii Kloppenburg 1999 is a tropical climbing plant,
native to the Philippines.

The American botanist and Hoya specialist Dale Kloppenburg (born 1921) named the yellow flowering Hoya species in honour to its finder the Philippine laboratory technician and plant collector Blas Hernaez, who discovered the rare Hoya blashernaezii at the island of Catanduanes near Luzon. Flowers are grouped in umbels of 20-30 single flowers, which last about one week. A scent isn´t perceptible. The tropical climber is considered as an easy-to-care and very temperature-tolerant plant. Hoya blashernaezii requires bright light, but no full sun and a high humidity. As Hoya blashernaezii belongs to the dogbane family (Apocynaceae) it contains a white, milky sap, which may cause skin irritations
and stubborn stains.
