Hoya globulifera Blume 1850

01/12/2013

Hoya globulifera Blume 1850 is a rare, tropical climber, found in Papua New Guinea.

The dark-red, sometimes greyish-red flowers are grouped in dense clusters with a size of up to about 10 cm in diameter. The hairy flowers are slightly fragrant with a scent reminescent of Vanilla, strongest whilst flowers open. Leaves of Hoya globulifera get lengths of just 0,8-1 cm with a width of about 0,25 cm. The tropical waxflower plant requires warm temperatures and bright, but filtered light. Plants should be kept slightly humid. As Hoya plants belong to the dogbane family (Apocynaceae) they contain a white, milky sap, which may cause skin irritations and stubborn stains,
whilst plants get injured and the sap leaks.
