Feather Cactus (Mammillaria plumosa)

Mammillaria plumosa F.A.C. Weber 1898, commonly called Feather Cactus or Feather Ball, is a flowering plant from the cactus family (Cactaceae), native to the Mexican states Coahuila, Nuevo León and Tamaulipas. The Feather Cactus (Mammillaria plumosa) grows at elevations from about 700 to 1300 meters. The cactus forms rolling groups of up to 40 cm, The white, fragrant flowers, with a sweet scent, get a size of about 1,5 cm in diameter.
Flowering period: late summer.
The Feather Cactus requires hot temperatures and full sun. In cool regions the tropical cactus is best cultivated under glass.



Mammillaria plumosa cacti are protected by CITES Appendix II (trade controlled to avoid use incompatible with species survival). The feathery looking spines are so soft, that the Feather Cactus is considered as one of the “friendliest”
of all cacti.
