Phalaenopsis Sinica Cherry (synonym: Doritaenopsis Sinica Cherry) is an epiphytiic growing, multi generation orchid hybrid, a crossing between the hybrids Phalaenopsis Purple Gem (seed parent) and Phalaenopsis Taisuco Firebird (pollen parent).


Phalaenopsis Sinica Cherry has been registered by Shen Nung Agr. with the Royal Horticultural Society in the year 1999. The vibrant deep pink flowers reach a size of assumed 4-5 cm in diameter. The erect inflorescenses carry more than 20 flowers, which opens about 10 at the same time. Flowering period Summer. Phalaenopsis species orchids involved in the development of Phalaenopsis Sinica Cherry: 27.83% Phal. equestris, 26.71% Phal.pulcherrima (formerly Doritis pulcherrima), 15.07% Phal. amabilis, 14.10% Phal. rimestadiana, 6.22% Phal. aphrodite, 3.55% Phal. schilleriana, 2.51% Phal. sanderiana, 1.93% Phal. lueddemanniana,
1.46% Phal. amboinensis, 0.42% Phal. stuartiana,
0.20% Phal.aphrodite {subsp.} formosana.


The tropical orchid hybrid requires intermediate to warm temperatures and moderate light, respectively a location in partial shade to full shade. Phalaenopsis species orchids and their hybrids like a difference between day and night temperatures and a good air movement. Orchids should never sit in water as it will cause root rot.
