The epiphytic growing Luisia curtisii Seidenf. 1973, with its strange, in sunlight, glooming red lip, looks a bit like a pink colored version of Luisia psyche or Luisia thailandica.
The Luisia curtisii orchid has been described and named by the Danish botanist and diplomat Gunnar Seidenfaden (1908-2001) in honour to the English botanist Charles Curtis (1853 – 1928), who supervised the establishment of Penang Botanic Gardens (George Town, Penang Island, Malaysia) in 1884 and became its first superintendent. Luisia curtisii is native to Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, Borneo (Kalimantan) and the Philippines. Flowers get a size of about 1,5 cm. Flowering season: April - May. Luisia curtisii orchids are protected by CITES Appendix II (trade controlled to avoid use incompatible with species survival)
