Bulbophyllum falcatum (Lindl.) Rchb. f. 1861 is an epiphytic, occasionally lithophytic growing orchid species, native to tropical Africa,
from Sierra Leone to Congo and Uganda.

The flat rachis (inflorescence), reminescent of a pea pod, which can be green or maroon red, reaches a length up to about 16 cm. The small, but colorful flowers are born on both sides of the flat rachis and get a size of just about 1 cm. Each side of the rachis can carry up to 10 - 15 simultaneously opening flowers, which are best viewed with a magnifying glass or a macro lens. Bulbophyllum falcatum is a member of the Bulbophyllum section Megaclinium and is protected by CITES Appendix II (trade controlled to avoid use incompatible with species survival).

The tropical orchid requires warm to hot temperatures and a shady location. Plants should be kept humid, but not wet, during the growth season and need a good air movement to avoid fungal infections. Waterings should be slightly restricted during the winter rest.
