Dendrobium Thongchai Gold is an epiphytc growing orchid hybrid, a crossing between Dendrobium Jiad Gold (seed parent) and Dendrobium Madame Uraiwan (pollen parent).

The Thai orchid hybrid Dendrobium Thongchai Gold has been registered with the Royal Horticultural Society in 1992 by Udom Orchids, an orchid nursery in Bangkok, Thailand. Inflorescences get lengths of about 20 - 30 cm and carry up to about 10 - 15 flowers, which open simultaneously. The slightly fragrant, golden yellow flowers with a dark purple lip, get a size of about 5 cm in diameter. Flowering period: Spring - Summer, with perfect conditions all around the year. Dendrobium Thongchai Gold requires a warm to hot, humid climate, full sun or bright light and should be fertilized regularly. The tropical orchid hybrid is considered as easy to care and suitable for orchid beginners.

During the last decades thousands of stunning Dendrobium hybrids has been developed, especially in Thailand. One of the tasks for orchid researchers was to create hybrids, which are suitable for the industral production of long-lasting cut-flowers and easy to cultivate as well. Thanks to enthusiastic people, like the Thai orchid researcher Prof. Rapee Sakarik and many others, Thailand reached its goal and became one of the biggest exporters of cut-orchids in the world. Cut-flowers of this Dendrobium hybrids last, with good care, for more than a month.
