Bulbophyllum retusiusculum Rchb f 1869 Cirrhopetalum retusiusculum

The miniarure orchid Bulbophyllum retusiusculum Rchb. f. 1869 was classified by the German botanist Heinrich Gustav Reichenbach in the same article as Cirrhopetalum retusiusculum Rchb. f. 1869 and as Bulbophyllum retusiusculum Rchb. f. 1869, which is the legitimate name.

There is quite a bit of confusion about the Bulbophyllum and Cirrhopetalum orchid species. Many of this orchids are classified in both species. The strange looking Bulbophyllum retusiusculum Rchb. f. 1869 is native to Thailand, Myanmar (formerly Burma), Malaysia, Laos, Vietnam, China, India (Assam, Sikkim), Bhutan, Nepal, Taiwan and the Himalayas. Bulbophyllum retusiusculum orchids are protected by CITES Appendix II (trade controlled to avoid use incompatible with species survival). The epiphytic, occasionally lithopytic growing orchid species requires temperatures from 18-22°C in cultivation and no direct sun.
