Orchid Hybrid Asconopsis Jiaho’s Orange

20/05/2013

Asconopsis Jiaho’s Orange is a small sized, epiphytic growing, intergeneric orchid hybrid, a crossing between Asconopsis Irene Dobkin (seed parent)
and Phalaenopsis Zuma’s Pixie (pollen parent).

The beautiful orange Asconopsis hybrid has been developed and registered with the Royal Horticultural Society in the year 2004 by Nobby Orchids, an orchid nursery from Yünlin, Taiwan. The fragrant Asconopsis Jiaho’s Orange flowers get a size of about 3-4 cm in diameter. Inflorescences get a length up to about 20 cm and are packed with multiple, long-lasting flowers.
Flowering period: Spring - Summer.
With good conditions the plant may stay in bloom for about 6 month. Asconopsis Jiaho’s Orange requires a warm - hot, humid climate and bright light, especially during winter and spring to induce flowering.

Flowers open in a bright orange color, which gets paler over the time and changes to a pink with elder flowers. Asconopsis, abbreviated Ascps. in horticultural trade, is the nothogenus (hybrid genus) for intergeneric crossings between plants of the orchid genera Ascocentrum and Phalaenopsis.
