Thecostele alata (Roxb.) Parish & Rchb. f. 1874 primarily decribed by the Scottish botanist William Roxburgh as Cymbidium alatum, is a small epiphytic growing orchid species, native to Bangladesh, Myanmar (former Burma) Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines.
The splendid Thecostele alata flowers are best viewed with a magnifying glass or a macro lens, as they get a size of just a bit more then 1 cm.
Inflorescences can reach a length up to 50 cm and carry up to 40 slightly fragrant flowers.
