Mokara Golden Tommy is an epiphytic growing, intergeneric orchid hybrid, a crossing between Mokara Sayan (seed parent) and Vanda Kultana Gold (pollen parent).

Mokara Golden Tommy has been registered with the Royal Horticultural Society in the year 2000 by Orchids Station, an orchid nursery in Singapore. The orchid hybrid has been created by Chong Fai Ah, an orchid breeder from Nakhon Pathom, Thailand. Mokara, abbreviated Mkra. in horticultural trade, is the nothogenus (hybrid genus) for trigeneric crossings between the orchid genera Ascocentrum, Vanda and Arachnis. The vandaceous Mokara orchids has been invented in Singapore in the year 1969, the very first hybrid has been named Mokara Wai Liang.

During the last decades Mokara orchids became very popular around the world, especially for their stunning, long-lasting flowers, which are often sold as cut-flowers and used for exotic flower bouquets and floral decorations. Mokara Golden Tommy flowers get a size of about 8 cm in diameter. Flowering period: free flowering. Mokara orchids are considered as easy to care plants and can be recommended for orchid beginners. Plants require a good air movement and should be watered and fertilized regularly. Don`t let plants sit in water, as it may cause root rot.
