The fragrant Dendrobium senile Par. & Rchb.f.1865 orchid is, because of it´s white haired stems, commonly called Old Man Orchid or The White-haired Dendrobium.
The flowers have a sweet, honey-like scent and last for a long time. Flowers get a size of about 3-5 cm. Flowering period: January - March. The tropical, miniature sized orchid species is native to Thailand, Myanmar (formerly Burma) and Laos and is growing epiphytic at elevations from 500 - 1200 meters. Dendrobium senile orchids are protected by CITES Appendix II (trade controlled to avoid use incompatible with species survival). The miniature orchid requires cool - warm temperatures and medium amounts of light. Watering should be restricted during the winter rest
until new growth appears.
