The spectacular Heliconia stricta Huber, also called red Lobster´s claw,
has been classified by the Swiss-Brazilian botanist Jacques Huber (1867–1914),
who did pioneering research work on the flora of the Amazon.
Heliconia stricta is native to the Caribbean islands, Central America
and South America and reach a heigth of about 1,8 m.
As all the Heliconia plants (Heliconias), Heliconia stricta is well-liked because
of its magnificent, bright red inflorescense.
The inflorescenses are widly used for floral decorations and are long-living.
