Lady Slipper Orchid Paphiopedilum bellatulum

Paphiopedilum bellatulum (Rchb.f.) Stein 1892, in common called Pretty Paphiopedilum or Egg in a nest orchid grows terrestrially preferably in limestone clefts rooted in leaf mold and moss. Paphiopedilum bellatulum (Rchb.f.) Stein 1892 is a Lady Slipper Orchid endemic to India (Assam), China (Yunnan, Guanxi, Guizhou), Myanmar (formerly Burma) and Thailand. The flowers reach a size of up to 7 cm. Flowering period: January - June. There are other Paphiopedilum species, that look a bit similar, like Paphiopedilum godefroyae (Godfr.) Stein and Paphiopedilum leucochilum (Rolfe) Fowlie.



Paphiopedilum bellatulum orchids are protected by CITES Appendix I (threatened with extinction, trade only in exceptional circumstances). The Lady Slipper orchid requires cool to intermediate temperatures and bright light.

I just inherited two mystery orchids. I have never had orchid plants before. I have them in window on the north side of house and placed them above a platter of water. I plan to water them lightly once a week. I hope this all sounds correct.
