Orchid Hybrid Rhyncholaeliocattleya Arom Gold
13/10/2012
Rhyncholaeliocattleya Arom Gold is an epiphytic growing orchid hybrid, a crossing from Cattleya Prachuab’s Delight (seed parent) and Rhyncholaeliocattleya Angkinantana (pollen parent).
The orchid hybrid, often named Brassolaeliocattleya (Blc.) Arom Gold, has been registered as Rhyncholaeliocattleya Arom Gold with the Royal Horticultural Society by P.Chaimongkoltakul, an orchid breeder from Thailand in the year 1990. As we found that orchid hybrid at an orchid show in our home city Chiang Mai, North Thailand, we didn`t suspect that we would stumble again in a taxonomic chaos. We couldn`t find the orchid labeled as a Brassolaeliocattleya (Blc.) as it was a Rhyncholaeliocattleya (Rlc.) and even one of the parents caused a lot of confusion. Prachuab’s Delight, sometimes also Peach Prachuab’s Delight was a Laeliocattleya (Lc.), at other sources a Rhynchosophrocattleya (Rsc.) and finally it was a Cattleya. What a mess ! The beautiful yellow flowers with a red lip get a size of about 14 cm in diameter. The long-lasting, fragrant flowers turn into a deep gold as they get elder. The name Arom Gold, means golden mood. Flowering period: free blooming.
