27/05/2012

Ascocentrum christensonianum Haager 1993 is a small epiphytic growing orchid species native to Vietnam. The Czech botanist Jiri (George) Haager described Ascocentrum christensonianum in the year 1993 and named the tropical orchid species in honour to the American botanist Eric A. Christenson (born 1956).

The erect, many-flowered inflorescences of Ascocentrum christensonianum reach a length up to about 15 cm. Single flowers get a size of just about 1,5 cm. Ascocentrum christensonianum orchids are protected by CITES Appendix II (trade controlled to avoid use incompatible with species survival). The cute tropical orchid requires bright light or full sun and a warm and humid climate. Flowering period: Spring - Autumn.
