Aquatic Plants

Aquatic plants, also called hydrophytes or hydrophytic plants, are living on or under the water surface. While many hydrophytes are known as invasive species, other aquatic plants are used by fish keepers to improve the water quality. As some aquatic plant species are marked as an invasive species, like the Common Water Hyacinth (Eichhornia crassipes), they are also used for Phytoremediation, a natural cleaning process of polluted water or soil.
